Queenstown Resort College helps create local ambassadors for Audi quattro Winter Games NZ

  • August 6, 2013

Twenty-five members of the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ 2013 management team and volunteers attended a half-day ambassador course yesterday at Queenstown Resort College. Winter Games NZ invested in the course to help provide them with the skills to become ambassadors for the local region and ensure that visitors and athletes have the best possible experience during the Games.

The course has been designed with input from an advocacy committee made up of Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden, Destination Queenstown, Queenstown Chamber of Commerce and 15 industry leaders across retail, accommodation, tourism and food including senior management from Real Journeys, NZSki, Ngai Tahu Tourism, Queenstown Airport, Skyline Enterprises, SKYCITY and AJ Hackett Bungy.

Attendees from Winter Games NZ included chief executive, Arthur Klap and sports manager, Iona Sanders as well as other contracted staff, interns and volunteers, several of whom come from overseas or from other parts of New Zealand.

Audi quattro Winter Games NZ volunteer manager, Anna Hiatt, said the course provided a great opportunity for everyone to learn new skills.

“It was totally advantageous for team members to extend their knowledge base of the local area and the various cultures and expectations of overseas visitors as well as learning how to ensure different nationalities have the best possible experience during their stay here. Everyone really enjoyed the session and got heaps out of it,” she said.

“Also, as many of our team are from overseas it was a great opportunity for them to learn more about New Zealand. It has definitely added value for everyone as part of their overall experience with Winter Games NZ and will help us deliver the best possible event.”

Winter Games NZ 2013 takes place over 11-days from 15-25 August at the international resorts of Coronet Peak, Cardrona Alpine Resort and Snow Farm, along with the Maniototo Curling International Rink. Set against the spectacular backdrop of New Zealand’s Southern Alps, the Games also include a full Downtown Sessions festival programme featuring films, live music and entertainment in Queenstown and Lake Wanaka.
