It’s with disappointment that the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ announces that due to the unprecedented demand for training space ahead of next year’s Winter Paralympic and Olympics Games, a number of major nations Alpine Para teams have indicated their intentions not to attend this year’s Games, therefore making it unsustainable to run this event in 2017.
“It’s been a really tough decision, we want to be in the best shape to profile this amazing event and without the entries from some of top athletes in that discipline we just don’t think we can achieve the best outcome for the sport, said Chief Executive Arthur Klap.
Klap reiterated the Games commitment to Para snow sports and suggested he and his team have already begun formulating a plan for 2018, “Para snow sports within the Winter Games NZ is a core principle of the Games and we are already working on a solution for 2018 and beyond that will excite Para Snow Sports athletes everywhere”.
“Our objective is to get a communication out one year ahead of the 2018 Audi quattro Winter Games NZ that will meet all the needs of the para snow sports teams wanting to come to New Zealand. While incredibly disappointed regarding 2017, we are very excited at the prospects for 2018”.
The IPC Slalom and Giant Slalom events were scheduled to be held at Cardrona on 5th & 6th September. The Audi quattro Winter Games NZ will continue to hold the Para Banked Slalom Southern Hemisphere Cup & World Cup at Treble Cone on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd of September.
